1 Degree of Separation is a nonprofit performance and training program using comedy and live storytelling to drive suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and stigma reduction through clean comedy, panel discussions, and the Five Questions tool to spark authentic conversation. Founded by comedian Brad Bonar Jr., the show “A Funny Look at Depression and Suicide” has reached over 200 events across 15 states and abroad, engaging audiences ranging from schools and colleges to military installations, first responders, veterans, and corporate groups. In Suicide Prevention Month 2025 the tour hit military bases like Travis Air Force Base, Moody, Goodfellow and others, plus community venues across California, Ohio, Texas, and an international stop in South Korea, delivering episodes of laughter, vulnerability, and mental health first aid training with commanding presence. The program is recognized across multiple branches of the U.S. military and public health communities, known for its clean comedy, emotional truth, practical tools, and fierce mission to make mental health education accessible, urgent, and transformative.
