Bret Ernst is a stand-up comedian and spoken-word performer who has spent more than twenty-five years working the road. His comedy reaches the screen in specials like Principal's Office and Uncaged, but the work belongs to the room first: the set list sharpened night after night across comedy clubs and theaters. The crowd-facing material has spilled into recordings too, among them the comedy album Domesticated Animal, though Ernst remains, at heart, a live act.
He came up between two coasts of the same coin: Florida and New Jersey. A turbulent childhood gave him the raw material, and a quarter century on stage gave him the timing to shape it into a career.
That career runs from the Hobart Art Theatre in Indiana to the Dallas Comedy Club, with regular stops closer to home at Disney Springs in Florida.
