Duran Duran have been working the seam between pop rock and electropop since 1978, and their recent records show a band still choosing its own direction rather than living off the back catalog. FUTURE PAST arrived in 2021 with that instinct intact, and Danse Macabre followed in 2023 into darker, more theatrical territory. Decades of releases sit behind those two, most of it recorded for Capitol Records and most of it built from the same mix of electronic rock and art pop.
The band came together in Birmingham. Nick Rhodes and John Taylor started it there in the late 1970s, and the lineup kept shifting through early 1978 before Simon Le Bon and Andy Taylor completed the classic version of the group in 1980. That configuration is the one the wider audience knows, and it is the foundation everything since has been built on.
The credentials accumulated from there: two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards including Outstanding Contribution to Music, an MTV Europe Music Award for Global Icon, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Live, they scale to whatever the room asks, having played Hyde Park, the Arena Di Verona and the Royal Palace of Caserta, which makes them a sought-after headliner for festival and fair lineups, college events, casino and corporate dates, and private engagements.
