ear is an electronic duo working in dark internet pop and hyperpop, with roots in alternative and breakcore, formed almost by accident. Yaelle Avtan and Jonah Paz, both primarily fine artists, started collaborating just two days after meeting, at an impromptu open mic noise set, and had a viral debut single, "Nerves," within weeks. Active since 2024, they signed to Surf Gang Records and built a catalog quickly, from "Nerves" in 2024 to a run of 2025 releases including "Fetish / Valley Serpent" and their debut album The Most Dear and The Future, followed by "Rumspringa" in 2026. The Fader named their song "Real Life" among the best songs of 2025 and named the duo to its 2026 Artists to Watch list.
The project came out of visual art. Splitting their base between Upstate New York and London, Avtan and Paz carried the same instinct that shaped their work as fine artists, playful, spatial, entirely their own, into electronic music: twee melodies layered over glitchy, digital-hardcore production, a distinctly different lane than the harsher hyperpop of their peers.
On the road, ear supported Yung Lean across the North America leg of his FOREVERYUNGTOUR, and have played rooms like Bowery Ballroom and Brick and Mortar Music Hall, along with international dates in Amsterdam and at Pitchfork Music Festival Paris. That mix of gallery instinct and fast-building live experience makes the duo a fit for festival lineups, college events, and private engagements.
