Easy Star All-Stars are the New York collective that rebuilds landmark albums from the ground up in reggae and dub. Dub Side of the Moon, their 2003 reading of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, became one of the best-selling reggae albums of its era and is still the record audiences come for. They followed it with Radiodread in 2006, taking on Radiohead's OK Computer, then Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band in 2009, Easy Star's Thrillah in 2012, and Ziggy Stardub in 2023, a full reggae treatment of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. They have also recorded original material, including First Light in 2011.
They started out as a house band. The group formed in 1997 to back other artists' sessions for Easy Star Records before becoming a recording and touring act in its own right, and that session-player origin is the whole trick: a deep bench used to serving someone else's song, now reshaping those songs without losing what made them work.
Producer and arranger Michael Goldwasser has anchored the project throughout, with a rotating cast of vocalists and musicians more than a dozen deep, and the band tours steadily through rooms like Brooklyn Bowl, Mission Ballroom and Belly Up. The concept lands hardest with crowds who already know the source albums, which makes them a natural fit for college programming, festival and fair stages, casino rooms, corporate events, and private engagements.
