Jack Garratt writes at the seam where indie pop, electronica, alternative R&B and trip hop meet, and his catalog tracks how far that mix will stretch. Weathered arrived in 2015, Phase followed in 2016, and Love, Death & Dancing came in 2020, each one built on the same singer-songwriter instinct underneath the production. He got there the long way. Garratt grew up in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, wrote his first song at 12, and learned multiple instruments before he had an audience for any of them. His first break came in 2009, when he posted music to BBC Introducing and picked up his initial radio play.
Recognition arrived in a hurry after that: the BBC Introducing award at the 2015 BBC Music Awards, then the Brit Awards Critics' Choice Award and a win in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll. Performing under his own name, Jack Robert Garratt has since played rooms including KOKO, Manchester Academy 2 and SWX 2, and the material travels just as well to festival lineups, college programming, corporate dates and private events.
