James Reid is a singer working across OPM, pop and R&B, and his catalog tracks a steady move from performer to author of his own records. The self-titled James Reid arrived in 2013, Palm Dreams followed in 2017, and Traveller came in 2024. He records under SME, and Palm Dreams marks the turn: he produced it himself.
Reid's story starts in Sydney. The clearest statement of intent came in 2017, when he co-founded the record label Careless with Bret Jackson for the express purpose of taking creative control of his own music. Palm Dreams was the label's first release, which makes the album and the company a single decision rather than two.
The credits and honors sit on both sides of that decision. "No Erase," recorded with Nadine Lustre, won Favorite Media Soundtrack at the 2015 Myx Music Awards, and the year before that Reid took the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award at the 62nd FAMAS Awards. He has since collected an MTV Europe Music Award, two SBS Pop Asia Awards, and R&B Artist of the Year at the PMPC Awards for Music for Reid Alert.
