Jaguar Jonze is the project of Deena Lynch, a Taiwanese-Australian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with a moody, twangy take on alternative and indie pop. Lynch has been releasing under the name since 2019, and the early EPs Diamonds & Liquid Gold and ANTIHERO set up the fuller statement of her Nettwerk studio album, Bunny Mode. The stage name itself came from a performance: fans started calling her Jaguar Jonze, and it stuck.
She did not start there. Born in Yokohama to a Taiwanese mother and an Australian father, Lynch moved to Australia at seven, and she made music as Deena well before the Jonze era, putting out Lone Wolf in 2012 and Black Cat in 2015. That earlier chapter is part of why the work now sounds settled rather than searching: she is a multi-instrumentalist and an activist who arrived at this name after years of figuring out who she was on stage.
That history shows up live, where she has played rooms like Bootleggers Newtown. The result is a sought-after act for festival lineups, college events, and performing arts centers, as well as private shows.
