Jason Isbell is a singer-songwriter working in country rock and alternative country, and the Grammys have followed him album after album. Something More Than Free (2015) won Best Americana Album, and its song "24 Frames" won Best American Roots Song. The Nashville Sound repeated both wins in 2018, with "If We Were Vampires" taking the roots song award, and Weathervanes did the same in 2024 alongside a Best Americana Performance win for "King of Oklahoma." His most recent record, Foxes in the Snow, arrived in 2025.
He came up in Green Hill, Alabama, where he was born in February 1979. His first wide audience was not his own: he played in Drive-By Truckers from 2001 to 2007, then stepped out under his own name and built the solo career the awards now track.
