Joe Dombrowski, known to fans as Mr. D, is a stand-up comedian who turned years of teaching elementary school into some of the most relatable material on the road. His 2017 April Fools' Day prank, a spelling test full of made-up words, went viral and led to multiple appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and he has since performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and at Just For Laughs, the New York Comedy Festival and Netflix Is a Joke Fest. His special Don't Eat the Crayons, filmed at The Belasco in Los Angeles in 2023, is free to watch on YouTube.
The classroom is where he found his voice. A Metro Detroit native, Dombrowski taught elementary school for about a decade while working comedy stages at night, and he has said that spending his days with five-year-olds who "act like drunk adults" made him a better comic. He also co-hosts the podcast Social Studies with fellow teacher Gaspare Randazzo.
Variety named him one of its Top 10 Comics to Watch, and he now tours internationally, playing theaters and clubs like Chicago's The Den Theatre. His story-driven set makes him a natural fit for college programming, corporate events, comedy clubs, fairs and private events.
