John Medeski is an American jazz keyboardist, pianist, and composer. He was born on June 28, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky. Medeski is best known for his work as a founding member of the jazz-funk trio Medeski Martin & Wood.
Medeski began playing piano at the age of five and later studied at the New England Conservatory of Music. He formed Medeski Martin & Wood with drummer Billy Martin and bassist Chris Wood in 1991, and the trio quickly gained a reputation for their improvisational style and eclectic blend of jazz, funk, and rock music.
Over the years, Medeski has also collaborated with many other musicians and artists, including John Zorn, Iggy Pop, and John Scofield. He has released several solo albums and has composed music for films, television, and theater productions.
