Joji is the recording project of George Kusunoki Miller, an Osaka-born artist who traded the online personas Filthy Frank and Pink Guy for a serious turn to music in 2017. His trip hop and alternative R&B sound arrived fully formed on BALLADS 1 in 2018, followed by Nectar in 2020 and SMITHEREENS in 2022. He records for Palace Creek.
Miller first built an audience on YouTube before stepping out from behind those characters to release music under his own name. That reinvention gave the Joji catalog its unhurried, downcast register, the same one that carried him from viral internet figure to a charting recording artist.
BALLADS 1 was certified Gold by the BPI in the UK, Platinum by Music Canada, and Platinum by the RIAA in the US, while SMITHEREENS earned RIAA Gold, and Miller became the first Asian artist to top the Billboard R&B and Hip-Hop Albums chart. He has headlined rooms including Ball Arena, Climate Pledge Arena, and the Maverik Center, making him a strong fit for festival lineups, college programming, corporate events, and private engagements.
