Jonah Kagen is an indie-folk singer-songwriter from Savannah, Georgia, working the seam where acoustic folk meets folk-pop, with enough country in the grain to keep the songs plainspoken. He has been releasing music since 2020, and the stretch from georgia got colder in 2022 to Black Dress in 2024 shows a writer settling into a register he can hold for a full set. Sunflowers and Leather arrived in 2025.
He had the guitar long before he had the audience. Kagen played through childhood without making it the job, and it took the COVID-19 pandemic and a song called "Broken" to change that. When "Broken" caught on with TikTok listeners, the years of practice suddenly had somewhere to go, and Kagen turned to music as his focus rather than his habit.
He works as a solo singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, which keeps the arrangements close to the writing, and his records come out through SME. On the road he has filled rooms like Antone's, The Kessler Theater, and Crescent Ballroom, stages sized for an act that carries a night on voice and guitar.
