Julien Baker is a Memphis songwriter who has spent the last decade moving between the acoustic, folk end of her writing and fuller alternative rock arrangements. Sprained Ankle introduced her in 2015. Little Oblivions, in 2021, leaned into indie rock, and Send a Prayer My Way followed in 2025. She records for Matador.
She came to it sideways. Baker began recording as a solo artist while attending Middle Tennessee State University, first putting the songs that became Sprained Ankle on Bandcamp, then dropping out to tour and pursue music full time.
Baker is also one third of boygenius, the indie rock group she plays in with Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, work that has brought six Grammy nominations and three wins. She has played in Forrister as well. Her catalog suits college programming, festival lineups, theaters and performing arts centers, and private events.
