Kellie Pickler is an American country singer who broke through on the national stage before she had a record deal. She first drew attention finishing sixth on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006, a run that led to her first deal and her debut album, Small Town Girl, that same year. From there she built a catalog that moved from the polished country pop of Kellie Pickler (2008) toward the grittier 100 Proof (2012) and The Woman I Am (2013).
She came up the hard way. Raised by her grandparents, Pickler began singing as a child long before American Idol put her in front of a country audience, and that small-town footing has stayed at the center of how she presents herself.
