Kevin Abstract is the recording name of Clifford Ian Fernando Simpson, an American rapper, singer, and producer best known as the founder and de facto leader of Brockhampton. His earliest projects arrived in a rush, with The School Bus Chronicles in 2010 and IMAGINATION following in 2011, and the years since have carried his work through labels including Question Everything, Inc. and RCA Records. He is a director as well as a producer, and the writing leans toward singer-songwriter candor rather than standard rap posture.
He came up in Corpus Christi, Texas, a long way from the industry, and built his own audience before the industry came looking. Being a queer artist in hip-hop shaped that path, and it stayed in the music rather than getting smoothed out of it.
Brockhampton remains the center of the story, and his credited projects run from that group to Geezer. On stage he has worked rooms at both ends of the scale, from The Parish to the Greek Theatre and Spark Arena, which makes him a straightforward fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate dates, and private engagements.
