Keys N Krates is a Toronto act working across hip hop, trap and electronic music, and the run from SOLOW in 2013 to Cura in 2018 and Original Classic in 2021 tracks a group that kept moving rather than settling into one lane. Their catalog has come by way of Dim Mak Records. In 2016 they released the Katy B-assisted single "Save Me", which won them a Juno Award.
The live show came first. Keys N Krates formed in 2008 out of a desire to take the remix and electronic sound out of the studio and onto the stage, and the three of them locked themselves in a rehearsal room for six months to build the performance before playing it for anyone. That decision still explains the act: the records are one thing, the stage is the point.
The group is Jr. Flo, David Matisse on keyboards and synthesizer, and Adam Tune on drums, a setup that puts drums and keys in the room instead of leaving everything to playback. They have become festival regulars on electronic and bass lineups worldwide, with dates including Standard Time, and 2019's A Beat Tape for Your Friends kept the studio side going between festival runs. It makes them a live act built for festival and fair lineups, college events, casinos, corporate dates, and private engagements.
