Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore band whose melodic metalcore sits squarely inside heavy metal without ever losing the hooks. Signed to Roadrunner Records, the band built its reputation on The End of Heartache, which took the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Album in 2004 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance the following year. Disarm the Descent arrived in 2013 and This Consequence in 2025, two decades apart and still carrying the same combination of clean melody and heavy attack.
They came out of the wreckage of two other bands. Killswitch Engage formed in 1999 in Westfield, Massachusetts, after Overcast and Aftershock came apart, and the members have kept the group working continuously since.
Vocalist Jesse Leach, guitarist and producer Adam Dutkiewicz, bassist Mike D'Antonio, and guitarist Joel Stroetzel anchor the lineup. Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance followed for In Due Time in 2014 and Unleashed in 2020, and the Metal Hammer Golden Gods named them Best International Band in 2007 and Best Live Band in 2014. On the road they have played The Warfield, the Hollywood Palladium, and the Marquee Theatre, which makes them a reliable headliner for festival and fair lineups, college events, casino stages, and private engagements.
