Kojey Radical is a London spoken-word performer whose work sits alongside grime, alternative rap, and electronic music without settling into any of them. He put out DEAR DAISY : OPIUM in 2014 and spent the years after it building a live reputation, which is where his writing lands hardest. Reason to Smile, his 2022 release, earned a Mercury Prize nomination.
He was born Kwadwo Adu Genfi Amponsah on 4 January 1993. London is both his origin and his subject, and he has been performing under the Kojey Radical name since the middle of the last decade.
The nominations have kept coming since: Best New Artist at the 2023 BRIT Awards, Best Contemporary Song at the 2023 Ivor Novellos for "Payback", and MOBO Award nods every year since 2018. On stage he moves between rooms of very different sizes, from the Royal Albert Hall to the Moth Club and Rough Trade Bristol, which makes him a practical fit for college stages, festival and theater lineups, corporate dates, and private engagements.
