Kreayshawn is an Oakland-raised rapper whose hip hop went from self-documented uploads to a major-label release. She put out "Bumpin Bumpin" in 2010, broke through online, and signed with Columbia Records in 2011, the same year the single "Gucci Gucci" earned her a nomination for the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. The album Somethin' Bout Kreay arrived in 2012, and she now records under Smile.Rip Records.
Music was in the house before it was a job. Born Natassia Gail Zolot in San Francisco and raised in Oakland, she grew up with a mother, Elka Zolot, who played guitar in the punk bands Bitch Fight and the Trashwomen. She got her first video camera at age ten and used it to document her raps and her life.
She works alongside L$D and the White Girl Mob, and has brought the show to rooms like Elsewhere and Catch One. A Video Music Award nomination and a catalog that found its audience on the internet make her a strong fit for college programming, festival and club lineups, and private engagements.
