Ladyhawke is the solo project of New Zealand artist Phillipa Margaret "Pip" Brown, working in a blend of electropop and alternative rock. Her self-titled debut, Ladyhawke, arrived in 2008 and established the pop-rock sound she has carried across later records, from Anxiety in 2012 to Time Flies in 2021. She records for BMG Rights Management.
Before Ladyhawke, Pip Brown came up onstage rather than in a studio. She played guitar in the Wellington band Two Lane Blacktop and in the Sydney act Teenager, and it was there that she sharpened both her pop-rock instincts and her craft as a live performer.
That early work paid off quickly. In 2009 Brown swept the New Zealand Music Awards, taking Album of the Year for Ladyhawke, Single of the Year for "My Delirium," Best Female Solo Artist, and an International Achievement Award, and she added the ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist – Album the same year. A sought-after live act with stage credits from Hopetoun Alpha to Ferrymead Heritage Park, she fits festival and fair lineups, college and corporate events, casinos, and private shows.
