Le Youth is Wes James, a Los Angeles producer who has worked under the name since 2012, moving between house, indie-dance, downtempo, and rnb. He introduced himself with C O O L in 2013 and followed it with Dance With Me in 2014. About Us landed in 2023, one entry in a catalog he has kept adding to for more than a decade.
He came to electronic music sideways. James was born in Toledo, Ohio, and started out as a drummer in a high-school band. It was a move to Seattle that redirected him: a coworker at a record store showed him sequencers and drum machines, and the interest stuck.
He records for This Never Happened, and his live résumé has grown alongside the catalog. He played two sold-out shows with Lane 8 at Brooklyn Mirage in New York, headlined Vinyl in Denver as part of The Hundred's monthly party, and performed at SXSW on a lineup with Alex Metric and Strange Talk. That range, club headline sets and festival billings alike, makes him a straightforward fit for college events, corporate nights, fairs and festivals, casinos, and private shows.
