Lecrae Devaughn Moore works in rap and Christian hip hop, recording as a solo artist out of Houston and releasing through Reach Records, the label he co-founded. His album Gravity won the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album at the 55th Grammy Awards in 2013, and Anomaly went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2014, during the years of his partnership with Columbia Records. He has kept a steady release schedule since, most recently with Church Clothes 4 in 2022.
He came up moving. Raised primarily by his mother in poor urban communities, Lecrae changed addresses often as a kid, became a Christian in his late teens, and did not put out a first album until he was 25. The catalog that followed, including Restoration in 2020, was built after that late start rather than before it.
Beyond his own records, Lecrae shared the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song with for King & Country for "Messengers" in 2015, and he had taken his verses to a wider hip hop audience with a Cypher appearance at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards. He had collected ten GMA Dove Awards as of 2023.
