Lil Yachty is a Georgia rapper who broke out in 2015 and never stopped experimenting with what a hip-hop record can sound like. He built his name in trap and southern hip-hop, then took a hard left with Let's Start Here. in 2023, a full-length that traded the sound he was known for on Lil Boat 2 for something else entirely. He came up scrappy. Born Miles McCollum, he dropped out of Alabama State University and spent a summer crashing with a friend in New York, working the rooms and the internet to meet the industry figures and influencers who would fuel his rise before he had a record to show for it.
