Lisa Hannigan is a folk singer, guitarist and composer who first came to public attention in 2001 as the female vocalist on Damien Rice's albums O and 9. She began her solo career in 2007, and the albums that followed arrived at an unhurried pace: Sea Sew in 2008, Passenger in 2011, then At Swim in 2016. She records for Hoop Recordings.
Kilcloon is her home ground. Her route to a solo career ran the long way around, through years of singing someone else's songs before she released one of her own, and that apprenticeship shows in how much of her writing is built for the voice rather than around it.
Sea Sew was nominated for the 2009 Mercury Prize. She has also worked as part of the collaborative project The Cake Sale, played the Other Voices festival in Dingle, Ireland, and taken her catalog to rooms of every size, from The Abbey Tavern to Queen Elizabeth Hall and O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. That range travels well: a grounded live act for college and performing arts center stages, festival lineups, corporate events, and private shows.
