Lori McKenna is a folk, americana, and country singer-songwriter whose own records have run alongside a Nashville songwriting career. Lorraine arrived in 2011, followed by The Bird & The Rifle in 2016 and The Tree in 2018, a run that kept her voice in front of her own songs while other artists cut them. She records for CN Records.
She built all of it from home. McKenna, born Lorraine Giroux, has spent her career living and writing in Stoughton, Massachusetts, outside Boston, rather than relocating to the town her credits are tied to. Her early performing years came up through the Boston singer-songwriter scene, including nights at Club Passim in Cambridge.
Those credits carry two Grammy Awards for Best Country Song: Little Big Town's Girl Crush in 2016 and Tim McGraw's Humble and Kind in 2017. In 2017 she became the first woman named Academy of Country Music Songwriter of the Year, and Crowded Table brought another Best Country Song nomination in 2021.
