Los Lobos are an East Los Angeles band whose music moves between Chicano rock, tejano, country rock and Americana without ever settling in one lane. They have recorded for Slash Records, and their later catalog shows a group still pushing: the road-worn songs of Tin Can Trust in 2010, the wider sweep of Gates of Gold in 2015, and Native Sons in 2021, a set that turns back toward the Los Angeles music they grew up with.
They started at school. Guitarist and accordionist David Hidalgo met percussionist and lyricist Louie Pérez as students at Garfield High School, and the two formed the band in 1973, recruiting fellow students to fill out the lineup. Los Lobos have been working under that name ever since.
The band's lineup has included Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin alongside Hidalgo and Pérez. Their catalog and their live work have brought a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Billboard Latin Music Lifetime Achievement Award and an Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance, and their reach extends past the concert stage to appearances such as the South By Southwest Film Festival. On the road they play rooms like the Narrows Center for the Arts, Payomet Performing Arts Center and Groton Hill Music Center, which makes them a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, college and corporate audiences, casino stages and private events.
