Louis Cole is a Los Angeles singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music sits where funk, jazz, and electronic pop meet. He started out issuing his own records, including the self-titled Louis Cole in 2010, and by the time Time arrived in 2018 the sound had sharpened into something a wider audience could follow. He now records for Brainfeeder, and his album Quality Over Opinion was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Jazz Album.
He built the craft himself. Cole developed as a DIY artist, writing, producing, and recording his own material and putting out self-produced videos alongside it, which is how the Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist arrived at a catalog that answers to nobody else's format.
He is also a collaborator by habit. Cole co-founded the electronic jazz-funk and avant-pop duo Knower and plays in the David Binney Action Trio, and his live work has taken him from The Echo and Nublu to EartH in London. That combination, a producer's ear and a working band musician's stage instincts, makes him a strong fit for college concerts and campus events, festival stages, corporate programs, and private engagements.
