Marlon Funaki is a Japanese and Mexican American singer-songwriter from California whose alternative rock pulls in indie, psychedelic, and jazz-influenced strains. He introduced that mix on The Universal Language in 2020, sharpened it on Monterey Village in 2022, and returned in 2025 with Overdue, released through Audiotree Music.
He built the sound himself. Funaki is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who writes, records, and mixes his own material, and often masters it as well, a habit that goes back to his teens and the first single he put out on his own.
Live, he plays with Jonathan Gaytan on bass, Jared Costa on guitar and vocals, and Reggie Ordoñez on drums. The band taped a session at Audiotree Live in Chicago, has played Schubas, won the Artist on the Rise showcase at Luck Reunion in 2025, and is scheduled for Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, making Funaki a strong fit for college dates, festival and fair lineups, corporate events, and private shows.
