maryjo is the recording name of Mary Jo Young, an American pop singer and songwriter whose work sits between singer-songwriter pop and piano ballads. She released Whistleblower in 2024 and followed it with Trouble in 2025, a song that stayed in circulation long enough to return in 2026 as the Trouble (Hangxiety Remix).
Her career started at home. In the spring of 2020, with Ohio under pandemic shutdowns, she began posting performance videos on TikTok, and the audience she found there took her from the Cleveland area and Tennessee to American Idol Season 19 in 2021.
On that season she reached the Showstoppers round and the Top 24, performing You Broke Me First and Castle on the Hill and singing Foolish Games as a duet with Jewel. Two years after her Season 19 run she signed with Atlantic Records. In 2026 she went back to the show for Season 24, auditioning with her original song Don't Call Me and advancing to Hollywood Week. She has played rooms including The Troubadour, The Axis Club, and The Foundry at The Fillmore, which makes her a straightforward fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate dates, and private events.
