Nick Mulvey is an English singer, songwriter and musician whose work sits between folk, indie folk and soul. His solo debut, First Mind, arrived in 2014 and earned a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Wake Up Now followed in 2017, and Dancing for the Answers came in 2018. He records with Supernatural Records.
He came to songwriting sideways. Mulvey grew up in Cambridge and studied music in Havana, Cuba, then spent his early career playing the Hang as a founding member of Portico Quartet, the band that took a Mercury Prize nomination in 2008. He left the group in 2011 to write on his own, putting out the EPs The Trellis and Fev before his first solo album.
The turn paid off fast. BBC Radio 1 named him to its Sound of 2014 list, and the First Mind nomination made him a Mercury nominee twice over, in two very different projects. On stage he has headlined London's KOKO on a sold-out UK tour and played dates as far apart as Perranporth Beach and Stereolux. A folk songwriter with a proven headline draw, he suits college events, festival and fair lineups, performing arts center programming, and private engagements.
