Nicolas Jaar is an electronic producer and composer who works across house, experimental electronic music and ambient. His breakthrough came with Space Is Only Noise, which Resident Advisor named its album of the year in 2011. The releases that followed kept widening the frame rather than repeating the formula: the Nymphs installments in 2015, and Cenizas in 2020.
His ear was formed across two hemispheres. Jaar was born in New York City on 10 January 1990, spent most of his childhood in Santiago de Chile, and came back to New York as a teenager. That double residency sits underneath the music, which has never belonged entirely to a club or entirely to a concert hall.
Jaar has also built the rooms his music lives in. He founded and ran the independent label Clown & Sunset from 2009 to 2013, then started Other People once it closed. He records outside his own name as part of DARKSIDE and with the Nicolás Jaar Group, and his live work has taken him to EartH in Hackney, La Gaité Lyrique and La Seine Musicale.
