Night Ranger has been a working rock band since 1982, and the arena rock the San Francisco group cut for MCA Records is still the reason buyers call. Midnight Madness and 7 Wishes both went platinum with the RIAA, which put the band in front of the kind of crowds it has spent the four decades since playing to.
The band did not start from nothing. Jack Blades, Kelly Keagy, and Brad Gillis came out of the pop and funk group Rubicon, left it behind, and built something harder that became Night Ranger. That hard rock instinct, sharpened by three players who had already worked together in another band, is what separated the group from a studio project with a hit.
Night Ranger is still releasing records, most recently ATBPO in 2021, and still on the road. Recent stops include Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel, Shooting Star Casino, and Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, which is a fair picture of where this act lands: casino showrooms, fair and festival lineups, college events, corporate dates, and private engagements where a room full of people already knows the songs.
