P-Lo is a Filipino American rapper and record producer working in Bay Area hip hop, a California artist who has built his catalog from both sides of the board. He introduced himself in 2012 with the debut project More Bitches, More Gold Chains, expanded his range on Moovie! in 2015, and released PRIME in 2018. His music has come out through Everywhere Like Air, Golden State Entertainment, and EMPIRE.
He came to rap through the beats first. Born Paulo Rodriguez, he started making them at home after hearing Kanye West's The College Dropout, and the producer's ear he developed there still shapes how his records are put together. In 2008 he co-founded HBK Gang with high school classmate Iamsu!, and he has been a core member of the crew ever since, working as both rapper and producer since the late 2000s.
That dual role keeps P-Lo close to the people he came up with, and Iamsu! and the wider HBK Gang remain the company he keeps. He has brought the catalog to rooms like Time Nightclub, and his West Coast hip hop sets fit college programming, festival and fair lineups, casino dates, corporate events, and private shows.
