Parachute is a pop rock band that has been recording under that name since 2008. Their Mercury Records era produced *The Way it Was* in 2011, and the group kept the same melodic instincts through *Overnight* in 2013 and the self-titled *Parachute* in 2019, a run that traces a decade of writing built on hooks rather than reinvention.
The band came together in Charlottesville, Virginia, long before there was a record deal to think about. Will Anderson, Johnny Stubblefield, and Kit French were still in high school, and they spent nearly every afternoon in Anderson's basement writing songs together. The pop- and rock-influenced sound they worked out down there is the sound that became Parachute.
Anderson, Stubblefield, and French remain the core of the group, and the catalog they built in that basement has carried them to stages as far afield as Point Éphémère. With more than a decade of releases behind them and a live set drawn from all of it, Parachute works well for college programming boards, corporate and fair lineups, festival bills, and private events.
