Parmalee is a country band on BBR Music Group, working a sound that pulls country rock and country pop into the same set. Their 2013 album Feels Like Carolina put them on the map, and the single "Carolina" became their first No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. Six years later, "Just the Way" went to No. 1 and earned a Platinum certification, and the run has since reached six number one country hits. Their most recent release, Fell In Love With A Cowgirl, arrived in 2025.
The band started as family. Brothers Matt and Scott Thomas brought in their cousin Barry Knox and their friend Josh McSwain, and the four of them built an audience around their hometown region of Parmele, North Carolina, before moving to Nashville to chase a wider country career. That was back in 2001, which makes the platinum singles the product of a couple of decades of work rather than a fast break.
Matt Thomas fronts the group on lead vocals and guitar, with Scott Thomas, Knox, and McSwain filling out the lineup that has held together since the beginning. They have played the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and worked the fair and casino circuit at rooms like Tioga Downs and Stampede Park, which is the kind of range that makes them a steady fit for festival and fair lineups, college events, corporate dates, and private engagements.
