Parson James is the solo project of singer-songwriter Ashton Parson, a pop artist whose writing runs through soul, R&B and gospel-influenced pop. His voice reached a global audience on "Stole the Show" with Kygo in 2015, a single that became a hit in several countries and earned sales certifications in Italy, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom. He followed it on his own terms with The Temple EP in 2016 and the 2017 single "If You're Hearing This," moving from festival-scale dance pop toward songs shaped entirely around his own voice.
He came up a long way from the dance charts. Parson grew up biracial and gay in Cheraw, a conservative town in South Carolina, and left for New York City at 17 to pursue music. The gospel current in his pop writing is easy to hear, and so is the reason it is there.
Parson James records for Tenace Records and has played rooms including The Surf Lodge, where his catalog of pop, soul and R&B translates to a live set that works for a crowd rather than a listening room. Between the reach of the Kygo collaboration and a body of work he wrote himself, he is a strong fit for college programming, corporate events, festival and fair lineups, and private engagements.
