Peaches is the stage name of Merrill Nisker, an electroclash and dance-punk artist whose catalog also runs through synthpunk and electronic rock. Her 2000 debut, The Teaches of Peaches, produced "Fuck the Pain Away," widely cited as her signature song. She stayed on that electronic footing through I Feel Cream in 2009 and Rub in 2015.
She came to it late and entirely on her own terms. Born in Toronto, Nisker was 33 and newly settled in Berlin when she began writing the songs that became The Teaches of Peaches, work that followed a bout with thyroid cancer and the end of a long-term relationship.
She records for Kill Rock Stars, and the live show has carried her across rooms as different as Silencio, Royal Festival Hall, and the Southbank Centre. That range makes her a sought-after live act for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate events, casinos, and private engagements.
