Pearl Jam is a Seattle grunge and alternative rock band whose reach runs from hard rock to acoustic and art rock. Formed in 1990, the band built a catalog that stretches from its early-nineties rise through the 2020 album Gigaton and its most recent record, Dark Matter, released in 2024.
The group came together in 1990 when Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, and Mike McCready started in Seattle and recruited Eddie Vedder as lead singer after hearing a demo tape he had recorded over their instrumental tracks. From there the band moved quickly onto the festival circuit, playing Lollapalooza in the early 1990s and later headlining major rock festivals worldwide, including Reading Festival.
Alongside Vedder, Gossard, McCready, and Ament, the lineup has included drummer Matt Cameron. The band's shelf holds a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, an American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Rock Artist, multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
