Peter Hook & The Light is the band Peter Hook built in 2010 around a single mission: perform every song he ever wrote with Joy Division and New Order live, in full. Formed in Manchester after Hook left New Order, the band works across post-punk, new wave, alternative rock, and synth-pop, staging complete album shows of Unknown Pleasures, Closer, and, this year, New Order's Get Ready for its 25th anniversary. That mission has added up to more than 800 shows and counting, part of a legacy that just earned Joy Division and New Order joint induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2026.
He came up as the bass player who refused to let the songs die. After Joy Division singer Ian Curtis's death in 1980 led to New Order, and after Hook left that band in 2007 amid years of internal conflict, he could have walked away from the catalogue entirely. Instead he built The Light specifically to keep playing it, touring England, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the US, and recording key shows for release, including a 2010 performance of Unknown Pleasures at Goodwood and a 2011 set documenting Closer at Manchester's The Factory, both later issued through LiveHereNow.
Rolling Stone has named Hook one of the 50 greatest bassists of all time, and alongside him, the current lineup features Nat Wason, Jack Bates, Paul Kehoe, and Andy Poole. The band has carried that catalogue everywhere from Latitude Festival in Suffolk and Levitation Festival in Austin to the James Hay Theatre in Christchurch, New Zealand, and heads into a 2026 North American tour built around Get Ready.
