Pop Evil is an American rock band working in the space where hard rock, post-grunge, and alternative metal overlap, with a catalog built out over more than two decades on Universal Records. The 2020s have been their most productive stretch on record, running from Versatile in 2021 through Skeletons in 2023 and What Remains in 2024, three albums in four years from a band still writing rather than coasting.
They started small. Pop Evil formed in 2001 in North Muskegon, a town on the western side of Michigan, around vocalist Leigh Kakaty, with guitarist Dave Grahs involved early on. The band later settled into the Grand Rapids area, and Kakaty has remained the constant voice through every version of the group since.
The lineup around him has included guitarist Jaime Nummer and drummer Dylan Allison, and the band has kept the kind of touring schedule that puts them on club stages and fairgrounds alike, from The Machine Shop and The Truman to the Red River Valley Fair. That range makes them a reliable fit for fair and festival lineups, college concerts, casino stages, and private engagements.
