Popcaan is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist whose work also reaches into hip-hop, R&B, and soca. He broke through with "Clarks" in 2011, a track that swept the EME Awards that year for Dancehall Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year and earned him Best New Male Artist. His debut album, Where We Come From, followed in 2014, and he records through Droptop Records / Unruly Ent.
He came up the hard way. Popcaan grew up in Portmore, Jamaica, in a housing project known as Gangsta City, and in 2007 he joined Vybz Kartel's Gaza Music Empire, the launchpad for his rise out of Saint Thomas.
His festival reach took him to Summerjam in 2013, and his run of releases includes Unruly (2012) alongside the studio work that has kept him touring. Popcaan is a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, college events, casinos, and private engagements.
