Prateek Kuhad is a singer-songwriter from Jaipur whose work sits between indie folk and indie pop, closer to adult contemporary quiet than to anything loud. He introduced himself with In Tokens & Charms in 2015, turned up on Karwaan in 2018, and released The Way That Lovers Do in 2022, by which point he was recording under WMG.
His ear was assembled from two separate record collections. The first was at home in Jaipur: Indian pop and Bollywood on one side, his mother's Harry Belafonte and Cliff Richard albums on the other. The second came later, while he was studying economics in New York, where Elliott Smith and Fleet Foxes reshaped what he thought a song could be. Both collections are still audible in the writing.
The songwriting has been recognized on its own terms. "In Tokens & Charms" won the Pop category of the 2016 International Songwriting Competition, a writer's prize rather than a performer's one, and it set the template for what followed. On stage he has played rooms as different as the Jio World Centre and the Fox Theater, which is a fair summary of his range as a live act: a seated theater draw who also holds a festival crowd. That makes him a strong fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate events, and private engagements where the room is meant to listen.
