Prof is a Minneapolis rapper, singer, and producer working in alternative and Midwestern hip-hop. Born Jacob Lukas Anderson, he first reached the charts with Liability in 2015, which peaked at number 141 on the Billboard 200. His numbers climbed after that on his own terms: Powderhorn Suites hit number 36 on the Billboard 200 in 2020 as an independent release, and Horse landed at number 111 in 2023. A new album, Good Time Boy, arrives in 2026.
He started rhyming as a teenager. The attention came in the late 2000s through independent releases on Stophouse Music Group, the label and studio he co-founded in northeast Minneapolis, and through the early Rhymesayers-sponsored Welcome to Minnesota tours.
Rhymesayers Entertainment signed him in late 2013 and put out Liability and Pookie Baby. The two parted ways in 2020, and Prof has released his own material through Stophouse since. He works solo, writing, rapping, singing, and producing, and he has taken those records to rooms as large as Toyota Center, Grey Eagle Event Centre, and Ford Wyoming Center. That makes him a proven draw for college shows, festival and fair lineups, casino dates, and private engagements.
