Reel Big Fish is a ska punk band from Orange County, California, and a staple of the third-wave ska movement. Their 1996 album Turn the Radio Off went Gold on the strength of "Sell Out," the horn-driven anthem that broke them on MTV, and their cover of A-ha's "Take On Me" landed on the BASEketball soundtrack, with the band appearing in the film. The catalog continued with Why Do They Rock So Hard? (1998) and Cheer Up! (2002) and later Candy Coated Fury (2012) and Life Sucks... Let's Dance! (2018).
It started in high school. Aaron Barrett and his classmates formed the band in Huntington Beach in 1991, and Barrett, the band's singer and guitarist, is the only member who has been there from the start.
After six years off the road, Reel Big Fish returned in 2026 with a reunited lineup that brought back trumpeter Scott Klopfenstein and trombonist Dan Regan alongside Barrett, Derek Gibbs, Matt Appleton, John Christianson and Ed "Smokey" Beach. Their July set at Vans Warped Tour Long Beach was the band's first show in six years, and they return to Warped Tour Orlando in November. With high-energy horns and a catalog of '90s singalongs, Reel Big Fish is a natural fit for college concerts, fair and festival stages, casino showrooms and private events.
