Reggie Watts works in the overlap between music and comedy, pulling from beatboxing, soul and trip hop on one side and observational comedy and surreal humour on the other. Why $#!+ So Crazy? arrived in 2010, and A Live at Central Park followed in 2012, recorded in Central Park in New York.
He came to that combination from a long way off. Watts was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on March 23, 1972, to a French mother and an African-American father, then moved to Seattle and later to New York as his career took shape. Seattle put him in bands, among them Maktub, Antibabel, and Heather Duby & Elemental, and the musicianship from those years still runs underneath the comedy.
Watts has also worked as bandleader on The Late Late Show with James Corden. His festival credits include Brian Eno's Luminous Festival at the Sydney Opera House, Bonnaroo, SXSW and Just For Laughs, and Reggie Watts Live from Berghain was captured at the Berlin club. That range travels well, which makes him a strong fit for college programming, corporate events, festival and comedy-club lineups, and private shows.
