Ricky Montgomery works in indie pop, with bedroom pop and alternative pop running through the writing. He introduced the sound on the Caught on the Moon EP in 2014, filled it out on the album Montgomery Ricky in 2016, and returned with Rick in 2023, released through WMG.
He got to songwriting by way of a move. Born Richard Owen Holmes Montgomery in Los Angeles, he relocated to St. Louis with his mother in 2005 after his parents' divorce. He played in various bands through his adolescence there before turning his attention to writing his own material.
Montgomery also records as Ricky Montgomery & The Honeysticks, and his live work has carried him to rooms including The Wiltern, Brooklyn Steel, and The Pageant. That range suits college and university programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate dates, and private events.
