RZA, born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs in Brooklyn in 1969, is the founder and de facto musical leader of Wu-Tang Clan, and his catalog runs through east coast hardcore hip hop and conscious hip hop alike. That catalog is deep, more than three dozen titles, and it keeps moving: 2022 alone brought Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater, RZA Presents: Bobby Digital and the Pit of Snakes, and Digital Potions, with Bobby Digital Presents: Juice Crew set for 2026. He releases through 36 Chambers / Platoon.
He came up in Brownsville. Before the Wu-Tang name meant anything, he was rapping in early groups with his cousins Russell Jones, better known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, and Gary Grice, better known as GZA. The family thread runs straight from those first groups into the crew he would go on to lead.
Beyond Wu-Tang Clan, RZA has worked as part of Gravediggaz, Banks & Steelz, AcHoZeN, and Soul Assassins, and his work has been recognized with an Echo Pop award for Hit of the Year and an Amadeus Austrian Music Award, both in 2004. Recent dates include Aura Nightclub and the Legacy Centre Of Excellence. He is a strong fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, casino and corporate stages, and private events.
