Houston legends Scarface and Devin The Dude are teaming up for a tour featuring a night of classic Southern hip-hop, blending raw storytelling with smooth, laid-back vibes.
Scarface
Originally from the South Acres neighborhood of Houston, Texas, Scarface was an early member of the influential Southern rap group The Geto Boys and has remained connected to them, despite launching a solo career in 1991. While he never achieved major national chart success during the ’90s, his impact on Southern hip-hop is undeniable. Scarface helped define the persona of the Southern street rapper long before the term “Dirty South” entered the mainstream. His influence became especially clear in the late ’90s, as a new wave of rappers from Houston, New Orleans, and Memphis began to mirror his raw, uncompromising style of hardcore, street-centered rap.
Devin The Dude
Devin Copeland, known as Devin the Dude, is a Houston-based rapper originally from Pontiac, Michigan, raised in Florida and Texas. He began his career in the late ’80s with the group Odd Squad, signed to Rap-A-Lot Records, and later joined Scarface’s group Facemob. After Facemob disbanded, Devin launched a solo career with his 1998 debut The Dude, which gained a cult following and led to a high-profile feature on Dr. Dre’s 2001 album. Known for his laid-back, weed-centric style, Devin collaborated with artists like UGK, Nas, Xzibit, and Raphael Saadiq. He released several albums throughout the 2000s and 2010s, including Just Tryin’ ta Live (2002), Waiting to Inhale (2007), Suite #420 (2010), and One for the Road (2013), solidifying his underground legacy. In 2017, he dropped Acoustic Levitation and the single “Smoke with Me,” continuing his steady presence in hip-hop.
