Rachael Cain, known throughout the world as Screamin’ Rachael, is an award-winning vocalist, recording artist, songwriter, producer, DJ, and label entrepreneur: an all-encompassing entertainment diva. Her concerts, parties, club dates, and films are truly legendary. And as President of venerable Chicago-based label TRAX Records, Ms. Cain presides over the true home of House Music – indeed, TRAX is viewed as the pioneering dance genre’s Motown Records.
Rachael notes, “I came into this business as a recording artist, and though it’s unusual for a female recording artist to double as label chief, men do it all the time. Such groundbreaking hip-hop artists as Master P and Chance the Rapper have balanced their record labels with their music artistry, so there is no reason why I can’t. In fact, I aim to be an inspiration for other women to do the same – as Sylvia Robinson, recording artist and founder/CEO of classic hip-hop label Sugar Hill Records, was for me.”
Ms. Cain’s acknowledged favorite place to be is onstage, singing, and throughout her career she’s dazzled international audiences – most recently in June 2019 on the Riviera, at L’Annex in Cannes, France. She immediately followed that performance with the official live debut of her new single, “One Day,” at the Get Out! Magazine Pride Event in New York City’s iconic Union Square.
Screamin’ Rachael has appeared with a host of music superstars, world leaders, actors, and artists, a list that includes the Rolling Stones, George Clinton, former President Bill Clinton, Tony Bennett, Afrika Bambaataa, Robert Indiana, Grace Jones, John Leguizamo, Todd Terry, Odetta, Ritchie Havens, and Buddy Miles.
The diva’s sexy, sultry singing appearances at chic spots across the globe – among them such prestigious clubs, hotels, and restaurants as The Majestic in Cannes, Panama in Amsterdam, E-Space Kiron and Wanderlust in Paris, The Palladium in Germany and the Limelight in New York.
Her jazz, blues and rock-band performances have wowed such VIP attendees as Liza Minnelli, Ashford & Simpson, Nile Rogers, and many others. Rachael’s countless DJ performances, which frequently incorporate her live vocals, have included a six-month residency at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, and she currently spins for monthly events at Chicago’s Paper Gun Gallery.
Rachael Cain’s numerous film and television appearances encompass documentaries (including the 2019 BBC release “I Was There When House Music Took Over the World”) and such feature films as “Nite Owl,” “The Deflowering,” “Manhattan Lifestyles,” and “Vamp Bikers.” Additionally, Rachael produced the soundtrack for, and stars in, the upcoming feature film “Japanese Borscht,” which has been named an official selection by New Filmmakers in New York; it just premiered at NYC’s Anthology Film Archives in early October. She regularly hosts the weekly lifestyle and music show, “Trax TV,” on Chicago’s Channel 25, and continues to make varied television appearances.
Screamin’ Rachael got her start in the 1980s at seminal Chicago warehouse club The Space Place, going on to ascend her throne as The International Queen of House Music via her solo dance hits (such as “Fun With Bad Boys” and through DJing at club soirées – drawing, of course, from her magnificent music collection. Significantly, she helped launch the careers of formative House Music legends Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Farley Jackmaster Funk, and Jesse Saunders.
Rachael’s discography includes three full-length albums and a quantity of EPs and hit singles, including her 2018 release “I Am House,” co-written and produced by renowned House DJ Joe Smooth. Her music is heard on satellite and terrestrial radio around the world, and she has been featured in a multitude of national and international publications; a partial list includes Vice, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Spin, Clash, Notion, Time Out, Ibiza Times, and XLR8R. As Paris-based Trax Magazine (no relation) expresses it, “Screamin’ Rachael doesn’t just make the scene – she creates it!”
